For travellers who seek the finest that the world has to offer

Romantic getaways at Frenchman’s River

Frenchman’s River is a 200-acre working cattle property near Cygnet in Southern Tasmania’s exquisite Huon Valley.

It is owned by television producer and novelist Posie Graeme-Evans and designer Andrew Blaxland; together they have created two lush, self-catering houses for you to stay in on their farm. Winner of the HOMEAWAY NATIONAL AWARD 2016’s “Romance” Section, The Helmsman’s House and the HIA-award-winning Writer’s House will delight travellers who cherish magnificent views, bespoke furnishings and complete privacy accompanied by exceptional service.

Perfectly placed above Cygnet Bay, the Helmsman’s House is a restored Federation-era farmhouse with two spacious bedrooms, each paired with opulent bathrooms offering a bath, walk-in shower and underfloor heating plus bathrobes & organic amenities provided.

From the living/dining area, quaint French doors will lead you to the limestone terrace boasting sweeping views of water, mountains and sky. Outdoors, you will also find a white-painted “folly” – a perfect place to read or meditate embraced by the bay and the hills – and a gazebo which invites you for sundowner drinks as you watch the sun set.

The Writer’s House is the perfect retreat for one or two people. Whether you seek that special place to celebrate an anniversary or birthday, or just want to spend time together in romantic surroundings – or be by yourself in lovely countryside – the Writer’s House has been designed with you in mind.

In spring or summer, pull back the bi-fold windows, throw open the French doors to the glorious views and breakfast on the North-facing deck embraced by the pretty native/exotic cottage garden. If they smell the coffee, your nearest neighbours – the pedigree black angus lowlines – might come visiting, since the Writer’s House is surrounded by the Frenchman’s River farm.

Among the inclusions in each accommodation house at Frenchman’s River are seasonal and organic goodies including free-range eggs, local bacon and Tasmanian cheeses, artisan Cygnet bread, milk from the dairy down the road and excellent Tasmanian butter. Tasmanian yoghurt is also provided, along with muesli, breakfast cereals and oats.

Guests may choose a bottle of regional wine or local cider/beer to accompany port in a decanter and a “nibbles” platter, which can be tailored to various dietary preferences.

Beauty, luxury and serenity is the motto, and guests are sure to find it when they stay with us at Frenchman’s River.
