Australia’s first Six Senses property to open in Victoria’s Dandenong Ranges

A three-storey art deco mansion and estate will become Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spa’s debut Australian property.

Located 40 kilometres from Melbourne in the forested hills of the Dandenong Ranges, Six Senses Burnham Beeches will comprise 43 rustic-luxe guest accommodations. The original Streamline Moderne mansion promises contemporary interpretations of classic elegance, with bespoke craftsmanship and panelling to contrast unexpected décor.

Added to the Victorian Heritage Register in 1991, the mansion’s original art deco will be reminiscent of flamboyance, where joy once bubbled, and champagne corks flew.

The Six Senses oasis

The individual layouts spread across the mansion’s three main wings will provide exclusivity and privacy. Separate from the main building, a lavish two-bedroom cottage with interconnecting one-bedroom suite will occupy the site’s Hilltop Retreat.

For those seeking an alternative stay to the mansion, a premium glamping setup will be nestled around the Hilltop Retreat, offering a non-intrusive and eco-friendly escape in the fern-filled ranges.

With a focus on wellbeing and sustainability, the Six Senses Burnham Beeches’ sprawling farm gardens will provide fruit and vegetables for the restaurants, while the herb garden will produce healing and aromatic plants for use in Alchemy Bar workshops and Six Senses Spa treatments.

A regenerative retreat

The Six Senses Spa will provide a luxe haven for guests with its botanical environment setting. Featuring a welcome parlour and boutique, tea lounge, treatment rooms, gym, hydro area and sauna, the relaxation spaces remain true to Six Senses’ focus on wellbeing. The soft natural palette, framed by the lush greenery from the outside, is designed with regeneration in mind.

Guests can also enjoy a restaurant with outdoor seating, a library bar and a rooftop refuge.

Another key feature of the exciting debut is Village Square. Said to be the beating heart of the property, the rustic-charm locality welcomes locals and guests to gather and indulge in venues and restaurants such as The Hearth, The Barn, Steak House, The Baker, Brew House, and Providore.

Guests can discover the historical, ecological, cultural and indigenous stories from Burnham Beeches and the Wurundjeri and Kulin nation lands through art, architecture, signage and landscaping across the grounds.
