Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class from Singapore to Sydney

Returning to Sydney after a trip to Southeast Asia, Cathy Wagstaff took to the skies on Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class to uncover the airline’s newest cabin.

Airline: Singapore Airlines
Class: Business
Route: Singapore to Sydney
Duration: Eight hours

I’ve been lucky enough to travel to many parts of the world via various airlines’ business class and my recent travels to the Lion City – with its national carrier – ensured the warm Singaporean hospitality began before I had even left the city.

It started in the SilverKris Business Lounge at Singapore Changi Airport. With its contemporary design, it offers an air of sophistication. A hearty buffet boasts many culinary options, from freshly-cooked teriyaki chicken to sumptuous salads and fine cheese selections. The well-stocked bar features an impressive selection of premium wines, cocktails and French Champagne adds a lovely touch.

As are the SilverKris Business Lounge’s dedicated work areas for those needing to catch up on emails or finish some work before their flight. High-speed Wi-Fi ensures seamless connectivity, while the quiet ambience provides an excellent place for pre-plane productivity. The lounge has shower facilities if you desire a little refresh before your flight.

Connection and comfort at 10,000 feet

Heading back to Sydney after the Travel Associates conference and ILTM Asia in Singapore, I boarded the latest Singapore Airlines A380 aircraft to fly home. Stepping into the spacious cabin immediately set the stage for what was to be a fantastic journey. The Business Class cabin has been completely overhauled on the upper deck. Here you’ll find 82 seats in a standard 1-2-1 configuration (the plane carries 481 passengers) that offers excellent privacy, allowing me to work a little and then relax for the rest of the eight-hour journey. Fully flat beds provide a comfortable sleep with little disturbance and are ideal for overnight flights. Worth noting, it’s possible to create a double bed in this Business Class by merging the two middle seats if flying with a loved one.

Seats are hand-stitched in rich purple leather by Poltrona Frau and come with a mattress topper. An 18″ full-HD touchscreen offer KrisWorld entertainment with over 1,800 inflight options. Noise-cancelling headphones ensure an upgraded audio experience. There are ample storage compartments, AC charging port and unlimited inflight Wi-Fi in Business Class should you wish to remain connected.

Personalised and professional

One of the standout features of Singapore Airlines’ A380 Business Class is the personalised service by the cabin crew. From the warm welcome at check-in to the meticulous attention to detail in the air, the crew consistently went above and beyond, always ready to assist with any request. From the moment of arrival, when a glass of bubbles is offered before take-off, to the amenities that are nothing short of exceptional. Ask for an amenity kit that has several skin care products; slippers and eyeshades are available on long-haul flights.

Commitment to culinary excellence

What sets Singapore Airlines apart from many airlines is its culinary excellence. As this was an overnight flight that departed after midnight, a dinner meal was not served however there was a great breakfast menu selection. After the bounty of food available in the lounge it was much better to have a light supper and Piper-Heidsieck Champagne before boarding.

Yet the in-flight dining experience is exceptional, with a menu showcasing international and Asian created by Singapore Airlines’ Australian menu consultant, celebrity chef Matt Moran with Book the Cook meal options, which are served on the finest porcelain from Narumi.

In my case, it was a breakfast menu of scrambled eggs with veal sausage, sauteed spinach, button mushrooms, and baked beans. A Continental style is also served with fresh pastries.

The Signature factor

From the attentive service to the luxurious cabin, with its oversized seats that could easily accommodate two people, every aspect onboard Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class was meticulously crafted to provide the ultimate comfort with Singaporean service and sophistication. There is also room for your hand luggage to be stored beside your seat should you have a preference to not use the overhead locker.

The SilverKris Business Lounge at Changi Airport adds an extra layer of style for an exquisite journey.

The only thing missing…

I would have liked to have been offered a choice of French Champagne during the flight for a truly extravagant voyage.
