About White Desert

White Desert was established by record-breaking polar explorer Patrick Woodhead and his wife in 2005, with Patrick now acting as the driving force behind the business. Born out of a desire to allow people other than scientists and polar explorers to see the wonders of the interior of Antarctica, the company has been established for 18 years and employs over 120 people from 17 different nationalities. Winner of 5 World Travel Awards, White Desert now comprises luxury camps: Whichaway, Wolf’s Fang and Echo. The company is the only operator to fly guests out of South Africa (Cape Town) direct to the Continent, managing and operating a unique blue-ice runway.

Founded with environmentally conscious principles at its core, and carbon neutral since 2007, White Desert has diversified over the last two years and now also uses its aircraft to transport scientists to their Antarctic research stations. White Desert is currently leading the field in testing sustainable aviation fuels across its fleet.
