For travellers who seek the finest that the world has to offer

Experience one of the rarest wilderness experiences on the planet

Quark Expeditions will be taking a limited number of travellers deep into Antarctica in November to witness the remote penguin colony in Snow Hill.

In 2004, Quark Expeditions made polar history when it conducted the first-ever ground visit to the remote emperor penguin colony at Snow Hill. Driven by a true expeditionary spirit – and guided by years of polar expertise – the team sailed past masses of dense ice and thick, tabular icebergs to experience the legendary rookery.

Now home to 8,000 breeding pairs of emperor penguins, you could join the expedition and observe the legendary ice-dwelling emperor penguin colony at Snow Hill Island.

Quark’s quest

The journey to remote Snow Hill is one of the most exclusive wildlife-viewing experiences on the planet. Guests will be able to embrace the thrill of the search as they travel on Ultramarine – with its two Airbus H145 helicopters – on the new ship’s first attempt to visit the colony. With scenes reminiscent of BBC’s ‘Frozen Planet’, you’ll observe thousands of penguins sliding across the ice into the sea. The ultimate aim of the Emperor Penguin Quest: Expedition to Snow Hill itinerary is to take guests to the penguin colony itself.

The Snow Hill itinerary

On the 14-day journey, you will experience the expeditionary spirit that fuelled polar explorers more than a century ago. After arriving in Buenos Aires, Argentina you’ll board a private charter flight to Ushuaia, Argentina where you’ll begin the voyage south. After crossing the Drake Passage, an unpredictable and exhilarating confluence of the Pacific, the Atlantic and the Southern oceans, you’ll find yourself navigating the Weddell Sea.

You’ll spend five days in the vicinity of Snow Hill, either touring the colony or immersing yourself in the custom-designed Weddell Sea experience. This includes educational programs and extra activities like the polar plunge or stand-up paddleboarding. Plus, enjoy helicopter sightseeing and Zodiac cruising. It’ll be a whole new way to experience the Antarctica Peninsula.
