J Farren-Price: Fine watches and jewellery since 1942

J Farren-Price is one of Sydney’s most distinguished luxury watch and jewellery boutiques

J Farren-Price celebrates its 80th year of selling fine watches and jewellery in 2022. Established in 1942 by John Farren-Price, the family business was started during World War II by importing quality, medium-priced Swiss watches and building an empire of about a hundred stores across Australia.

Today a single destination boutique in Sydney’s CBD, J Farren-Price focuses solely on high-end luxury watches and jewellery – they are the longest-standing official agents for Patek Philippe, Rolex, Tudor, Vacheron Constantin, Chopard and Longines in Australia. They also offer Grand Seiko, Greubel Forsey and multiple jewellery brands including Argyle Diamonds, Roberto Coin, Pasquale Bruni, Fope, Roberto Demeglio, Hearts on Fire, Autore Pearls and Picchiotti jewellery.

Offering personalised bespoke jewellery design, J Farren-Price also has an in-house jewellery designer who works with clients to create their dream piece for any occasion.

J Farren-Price Jewellery

Argyle pink diamonds are regarded by many as the most concentrated form of wealth on earth and J Farren-Price is an Argyle Select Atelier with a diverse collection of these rare and valuable diamonds. The Australian Argyle pink diamond mine officially closed down in 2020 after 37 years of operation. And, now that 90% of the world’s pink diamond supply has ceased, a 1-carat pink is a one-in-a-million gift of nature. The fact that no more Argyle diamonds are being mined explains why in 15 years their price has risen in the order of 300%.

J Farren-Price designs and produces stunning high-end jewellery with quality gems whether it be diamond, ruby, sapphire, emerald or one of the colourful and exotic collectible semi-precious gems.

Now run by Julian Farren-Price

Julian Farren-Price, son of the late John and Krysten Farren-Price is the owner and Managing Director today. While he encourages customers to wear their jewellery and not hide it away, Julian says gems are a very good investment. He recently acquired a rare 1.39ct cushion cut Fancy Intense Purplish Pink Argyle Pink Diamond diamond ring known as “Vivacity” valued at $2.5 million. One of the most important pink diamonds available in Australia today.

In 2019 the opportunity arose to double the size of the Castlereagh Street salon and this was opened on 21st December 2019 literally taking the business to a new level. This is the company’s 4th expansion at its 80 Castlereagh Street premises since they occupied the site in 1975. It now incorporates the largest retail area for Patek Philippe in the Southern Hemisphere.

Julian’s sporting passion is yachting both cruising and racing. A member of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia for over 40 years and Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron for 35 years. He has had a string of 3 yachts called “About Time” and over the last 20 years and has won a record 10 Ocean Point Scores and in 2019 realised a lifelong dream of doing the Sydney Hobart Yacht race. He has been sailing and racing since he was 13, calling it his release from work. “This is a pretty serious business. We’re dealing with high-end products, and with people with high expectations. The boat is my bit of space in the world.”
